Buying a Crib
The crib is one of the earliest and most important purchases you are going to make for your nursery. Consider cribs that meet rigid North American safety standards first, and then look at the styles, colors and finishes that suit your decor.
Avoid buying second-hand cribs to ensure that your newborn has a safe and clean area for the first year(s) of life. Used cribs could have been modified, re-painted with toxic paints or stored in moldy areas. Also, used cribs might not have all hardware and joints tight and secure. Remember that wooden products change under extreme climatic changes, such as cold and heat. Therefore, cribs stored in a garage or attic for years can absorb humidity, lose original characteristics, and become unsafe for reuse.
Safety standards periodically change as well and buying a new crib guarantees compliance with the latest safety standards.
