Crawl, Set, Match: How to Design a Wimbledon Tennis Nursery

Crawl, Set, Match: How to Design a Wimbledon Tennis Nursery

Summer is here, which means—for tennis fans—Wimbledon is right around the corner. Wimbledon is the pinnacle of prestige, tradition, and top-flight tennis. For new and soon-to-be parents who count themselves as tennis fans, putting together a Wimbledon tennis themed nursery is a creative, classy, and timeless way to honor the most prestigious Grand Slam tennis tournament in baby’s nursery. We sat down with Justin L. Segal, Storkcraft’s Creative Director (and tennis fanatic), to talk about his tips on bringing to life the ultimate tennis nursery — Wimbledon style.

Strawberries and cream — meet Wimbledon

For those who don’t know Wimbledon, you’ve probably heard the name before. Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, and is held annually at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England. Founded in 1877, Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments alongside the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open.

Wimbledon is famous for several distinctive traditions: firstly, it's the only Grand Slam that is played on grass courts. Secondly, players are required to wear predominantly white clothing, a tradition dating back to the Victorian era. Lastly, fans in the stands enjoy Wimbledon’s famous strawberries and cream while watching matches.

Choosing your nursery furniture — let’s start with a Wimbledon-worthy crib

Storkcraft ® Sicily Deluxe 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Guardrail

When styling your nursery, it all starts with the baby crib. Justin believes that the crib is the “heart of the nursery”. After all, it’s the centerpiece of the nursery, the nursery’s “shining star” and the one piece of furniture that safely serves as your baby’s place to sleep. One of Justin’s favorite cribs (which he designed, and which his daughter is currently sleeping in) is the Storkcraft ® Sicily Deluxe 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Guardrail, which Justin suggests for any Wimbledon tennis nursery. “The Sicily is tasteful, timeless, and classic. It brings all the Wimbledon vibes — especially in its two-tone Frosted Oat & Driftwood colorway,” says Justin. “The Sicily embodies prestige. It personifies elegance. I especially think the Sicily in its stunning Frosted Oat & Driftwood colorway represents that vintage tennis, All England Club, elevated aesthetic.”

Storkcraft® Amalfi Nursery Power Recliner Swivel Glider in Ivory Boucle

The key is balancing the sporty theme with the gentle, soothing environment a nursery needs. While you want to capture the excitement of Grand Slam tennis, it’s important to remember that the nursery must first and foremost serve as a calm, serene room for both parents and baby alike. Choose light hues like Storkcraft’s ever-popular Frosted Oat painted finish and Driftwood blond stain, and neutral fabrics like Storkcraft’s Ivory Boucle to bring sweet calm to the nursery. Like Justin said, we recommend our Storkcraft® Sicily Crib in Frosted Oat & Driftwood — providing a classic, elegant, and time-honored aesthetic while offering families all the functionality and new-age, “grow with me” convertibility you need as a parent. To pair with the crib, we think our Storkcraft® Amalfi Nursery Power Recliner Swivel Glider in Ivory Boucle is a luxurious, comfortable, upscale nursery hero for moments of skin-to-skin bonding between parent and baby.

A calming, refined color palette — capturing the international tennis spirit

Wimbledon is known for its distinctly traditional “white and green” color palette that honors its differentiating elements: grass courts, all-white attire, and distinctly British feel. These colors can be used throughout the nursery to create a calm, peaceful, and elegant space.

Don’t be afraid to use pops of color in small doses. Here are some tennis-themed products we recommend to bring your tennis nursery to life:

Storkcraft® Morningside™ Changing Table.

“The Frosted Oat & Driftwood Sicily Crib and Ivory Boucle Amalfi Nursery Power Recliner are the two most ‘Wimbledon style’ Storkcraft® pieces I can think of,” says Justin. “For extra functionality in the nursery, check out the gorgeous (and tastefully simple) Storkcraft® Morningside™ Changing Table. For some reason, the Morningside’s three linear grooves remind me of a classic, cable-knit tennis sweater. Especially in Frosted Oat, the Morningside is the Wimbledon champion of diaper changing tables,” says Justin. “The OYOY Tennis Rug offers just the perfect amount of color to bring some playful ‘life’ to the nursery, while still maintaining the overall neutral-and-green Wimbledon theme.”

Finishing Touches for the Ultimate Wimbledon Tennis Nursery

Finishing Touches for the Ultimate Wimbledon Tennis Nursery

Beautiful, quality-crafted nursery furniture aside, here are some fun, final, finishing touches, as recommended by Justin:

“Ask anyone who knows me, and you’ll know I keep Jellycat’s Amuseables Sports Tennis Ball in all of my rooms — at home, at work, and even as a keychain on my tennis bag,” says Justin. “Lastly, for a Wimbledon tennis nursery, you have to finish it off with the unbelievably classy and cute Lacoste Crocodile Toy,” says Justin. “Lacoste is synonymous with tennis, and their beloved crocodile mascot in a Wimbledon-style white tennis polo is perfect — just perfect.”

Crawl, set, match — final words

A Wimbledon-themed tennis nursery would undoubtedly make for a charming, elegant, and classic nursery space. Start with Wimbledon's signature colors: crisp whites, deep greens, and touches of purple (from Wimbledon’s official logo). Add soft pastels like sage green or lavender to make it more nursery-appropriate.

Consider grass-green accent walls or wallpaper with subtle tennis motifs. White wainscoting would echo the clean, classic aesthetic. You could create a feature wall with removable decals of tennis rackets, balls, or even a stylized grass court pattern.

Choose white or cream furniture—better yet, Storkcraft’s signature Frosted Oat color, which is the most elegant of greige hues, and Storkcraft’s gorgeous Ivory Boucle fabric—with clean lines to match Wimbledon's classic style. Add green gingham or small checkered patterns through curtains, throw pillows, or a cozy reading chair. Striped patterns in green and white would reference the tournament's traditional awnings.

Hang vintage-style tennis prints or create a gallery wall with framed "tournament posters." A mobile with soft tennis balls and rackets could be adorable above the crib. Consider a bookshelf styled like a trophy case with stuffed animals and books. Of course, practice nursery safety and safe sleep tips when placing these items in the nursery.

Lastly, add a small artificial grass rug for texture, string lights to mimic stadium lighting, or even a growth chart designed like a tennis net. Fresh white flowers or greenery in simple vases would complete the sophisticated yet playful atmosphere.

And remember, “quiet please”.
